HTO/ACL update: Not quite the six-month update I was hoping for 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Updated: May 19

Not the photo I wanted to share today!

Almost a year after the knee blow out that finally triggered the second opinion, and six months since my HTO operation, where am I but sat with 🧊 on my freakin’ knee AGAIN!!!

Had a good gym session in the morning. Upped my weights (incrementally). The banded turning jumps were going well, as well as the jump downs from the step, so I decided to give 90degree turning jump downs a go again too.

All felt good, I started to get some more confidence in the bank, and went home in good spirits.

Then, walking across the kitchen later that afternoon, completely out of nowhere, my knee shifted out of joint again 😖😖😖

I give up!!!

(I don’t, I’m not sure I’m actually capable of that but seriously, WTF????)

All this time I’ve been trying to trust the process and the professional judgement that we probably don’t need to re-do the ACL (again, again) if the HTO sorts the slope, and here I am with it shifting out of joint just walking across the flippin’ floor.

🌥️ On the positive side, I didn’t end up on the floor this time and it solves the ‘do I, don’t I take the brace to the Lakes next week?’ conundrum but, otherwise, I really don’t know what to say now 😶

90 mins of on / off ice in the evening and it’s stiffening up, swelling is still there, and h/s tendon and ITB are tightening up (like they’ve done every other time).

I’m guessing tomorrow won’t be a physio day (it was due to be balance and agility 🤦🏻‍♀️). My physio is away for another two weeks so I’ll just have to hope it settles quickly and get on with things as best I can in the meantime.

Is it really too much to ask to have a stable knee I can trust???
